A Return to PuG

A rare week; I actully put in a good few hours in the City of Heroes!

In the late hours of Friday night, with none of my friends about, I decided I'd have a stab at forming a pick up group; but these would be no ordinary missions -- we'd be facing those cursed Malta Operatives with their Sappers, so team work would be essential -- not a staple diet of your ordinary pick up group!

Firstly, I'm very much used to leading teams as a Blaster, but I found that playing as a Tanker makes it so much easier to lead -- you can lead from the front and if the team is a little slow in following there's a good chance you actually survive when catch up :)

During the life of the team members came and went; Mai Sakaki, Locus Brio, Nihs Nek, Oh Yea, Hunny Bunny, Sparkd, Pr0xy, Gehasste Seele & DarkRestoration; but all throughout there was a surprising level of teamwork on display, unlike earlier in the day when I teamed with a certain Scrapper who appeared to be oblivious to the fact he was even on a team; much debvt ensured!

My Forza Garage

I threw this together to help me keep track of the cars I've bought and what I still need to get. I find it very helpful when browsing the Auction house at work planning what I'll be bidding on when I get home:)

It's still very much a work in progress, but I figured I'd make it available incase anyone else might like to use it.

If you'd like to take a look at it you will need to register an account on the site first so you can build your own garage; there is no way to view other peoples' data at the moment.

http://www.nofuture.org.uk/forza/

Server Performance Issues

I've resolved the server performance issues the site has been having of late. Everything is back to it's normal speed again. Unfortunately, as part of City information Terminal's redesign, their RSS news feeds are no longer available, and the pages on my site that referenced them were waiting 1 minute before failing, causing a backlog of processes on the sever that crippled the site.

Two weeks to go! Just two weeks! The release date of Pro Evolution Soccer 3 has been moved forward to match that of EA's latest FIFA outing, this means I get PES3 goodness a whole fortnight earlier - thank you EA, at least some good has come out of FIFA 2004.

Meanwhile, in a reality not too far away I seem to have had a constant stream of packages from Play.com arriving lately - with more to come! GI Joe: The Movie and Defenders of the Earth: The story begins arrived today, with my X-Port due sometime soon and <amazon asin=""B0000A03NF">PES3</amazon>, <amazon asin="B0000694YE">Star Wars: Galaxies</amazon> and <amazon asin="B0000DC182">CM 03/04</amazon> due out over the coming weeks and months it's going to be a busy gaming season this Autumn!

Seduction was th art of changing another's audience and hence his personality.

I ordered an X-Port for my PS2 too. while I was at Play I noticed that <amazon asin="B0000694YE">Star Wars: Galaxies</amazon> now has a release date of October 31 so I pre-ordered it .. looks like I'm going to be busy this Autumn - with a new CM on the way in November too.

To change man, the audience by which he judjes himself must be changed. A man is defined by his audience: by the people, institutions, authors, magazines, movie heroes, philosophers by whom he pictures himself being cheered and booed. Major psychological disturbances, 'identity crises,' are caused when an individual begins to change the audience for whom he plays: from parents to peers; from peers to the works of Albert Camus; from the Bible to Hugh Hefner. The change from I-am-he-who-is-a-good-son to I-am-he-who-is-a-good-budy constitutes a revolution. On the other hand, if the man's buddies approve fidelity one year and infidelity the next, and the man chnages from faithful husband to rake, no revolution has occurred. The class rule remains intact; only the policy of on a minor matter has been altered.

- Luke Rhinehart (<amazon asin="0006513905">The Dice Man</amazon>)

I placed my pre-order for PES3 today .. release date November 17 seems a long long way off, while I was on the site I 'accidentally' bought two more DVDs: Defenders of the Earth: The story begins and GI Joe: The Movie, although they only cost £4.49 each so they hardly count :)

I was up in time to watch the new He-Man cartoon on ITV1 again this week. It's really impressively done .. even better than the 80's original, and you don't hear that said about the 80's cartoon remakes often -- Transformers and Zoids being the biggest disapointments, having gone down the Pokemon gotta collect 'em all path.

He-Man is twenty years old ... that makes me feel very old indeed!

I got home to find <amazon asin="B0000A1M41 ">He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe - Vol. 1 DVD</amazon> had been delievered :) Included on the accompanying paperwork is a list of DVDs coming soon; Lord of the Rings:Two Towers - Directors Ext Version (4 Discs); Lord of the Rings:Two Towers - Collector's Box Set; Lord of the Rings:Two Towers (2 Discs); seriously - do we really need three releases of the film?

In a rather low key draw (I didn't even know it was happening until I caught the news on the BBC site) Liverpool have been drawn away to Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the Carling Cup -- an interesting tie given the recent fall out of Houllier and Souness over Lucas Neill's 'tackle' that left Carragher with a broken leg.

Middlesbrough calls, it seems the logical destiantion for a former world superstar well past his best.

It seems that the world of football has a sense of humour after all -- Dundee plan to sign Dutch international Edgar Davids! Back on Merseyside, Liverpool and Everton have agreed to hold talks about the possibility of ground-sharing at the request of the politicians -- despite both clubs being commited to not sharing already -- why do politicians continue to intervene in footballing issues? The government has already added hundreds of millions to the cost of the new Wembley, hopefully Liverpools' stadium plans will not be similarly affected.

Fuck Hoddle! The biggest ego in football has been sacked by Tottenham after dragging the club to even new depths. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is about Glenn Hoddle that makes me hate him so much though;

maybe it's the way he involved faith healers in the England camp?

maybe it's because he said 'Michael Owen was not a natural goalscorer'?

maybe it's because he told James Beattie 'he had no future in football'?

maybe it's simply because he's a complete twat?

This man has repeatedly shown a complete lack of judgement of all things football yet still has been appointed to some of the top jobs in the country, maybe now, at last, his reputation will be such that he will not return. I expect him to turn up on ITVs 'The Premiership' any week now, he'll fit right in there.

I know it's not very PC, but what the hell is this mother complaining about - so her son has ADHD, why should that be allowed to destroy the education of other children at his school? I feel sorry for the kid, but what about the normal kids whose educations are gonna suffer as he disrupts the classes? Back when I was at school we had the 'special class' for all the special kids, I suppose that is now outlawed and deemed discriminatory these days?

From that article I came across the story of a six year old boy who has been expelled three times from school, and 'is now being taught on his own in a special unit with two full-time staff to control him'. 'From September his local authority will send him 150 miles from home to a residential special school in Cumbria with fees of up to £94,000 a year.'

Would they not be better off finding him some foster parents?

Daniel's mother, Sharon Cowans, admitted he was a difficult child but said his daily outbursts were just an extension of the "terrible twos"

"Something seems to trigger him off. He'll be sitting playing nicely and all of a sudden there's a full blown temper tantrum. You can't calm him down - there's just nothing to be done. You've got to restrain him. Then he's forgotten five minutes later and he's happy again"

D I S C I P L I N E ? But it seems there are no bad parents these days, it's always someone else's fault, there are always extenuating circumstances, no-one seems able to just come out with it and say - "you are a bad parent, you have failed your child. Just accept it!".
