Happy Finish – Department of Hate

by Dave on Apr.13, 2010, under Film & TV, Playlist

I’m really looking forward to Happy Finish; the quality of some of the sketches done for websites has long since reached the levels expected of TV sketch shows, and in many cases has even exceeded what’s on offer from modern day sketch shows. I can’t remember the last sketch show I enjoyed on TV; Big Train — that was, what, 8 or 9 years ago!

A brand new sketch show that showcases a generation of new comedic talent both on and off-screen. Sketches include the Department of Internet Hate – a government body who are tasked with the job of coming up with the hate you read on YouTube comment boards; an illegal download that goes horribly wrong; a boyfriend returning from the dead; the archaeologists who uncover one of Jesus’s practical jokes; and a glimpse into the perils of homemade time travel.

The Great Mystery of the Universe

by Dave on Feb.05, 2005, under Film & TV, QOTD

… time travelling is just too dangerous. Better that I devote myself to study the other great mystery of the universe: Women.

Big Brother

by Dave on Jun.03, 2004, under Film & TV

It seems there is hope for the British public after all as audience figures for Big Brother 5 halved after the launch night, maybe the last ever Friends episode had something to do with Friday night’s figures too. I admit I watched the first BB and that I enjoyed it .. but the subsequent shows have attracted a different breed of person to the first, out went real people, in came the social parasites seeking their 15 minutes of fame and the lucrative spin-off TV ‘career’.

Van Helsing

by Dave on May.06, 2004, under Film & TV

I went to see Van Helsing against my better judegment. I expected very little from the trailers I had seen, and amazingly the film was even worse than I had anticipated. It was a constant assault on my intelligence, I feel violated by the dumbed-downess of the entire film. Worse than The Hulk? Maybe so. But just how you can take a license like Van Helsing and fail to make a decent action film I will never know. If I hadn’t had a lift to Basingstoke I would have walked out of the cinema within 30 minutes of this travesty.

24

‘Tis my 24th birthday, didn’t get up to anything — getting old is very depressing :(

Went to see Dawn of the Dead, Linda refused to come being the coward she is ;) The film itself was very good, a much better remake than the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre debacle.

Recursive Reality

by Dave on Feb.28, 2004, under Film & TV

I’m not joking when I say that today I discovered a reality tv show where the contestants are all former reality tv show contestant .. recursive reality television !! Back to Reality, as it’s imaginitively titled can be seen on the home of quality programming — Channel five.

How did I find out about this show you may wonder? My BBC Daily e-mail told me that Reality’s Goody collapses on set and I just couldnt’ resist the click during a lull at work.

Conclusive proof that God exists

by Dave on Oct.23, 2003, under Film & TV

Actor Jim Caviezel has been struck by lightning while playing Jesus in Mel Gibson’s controversial film The Passion Of Christ. The lightning bolt hit Caviezel and the film’s assistant director Jan Michelini while they were filming in a remote location a few hours from Rome. It was the second time Michelini had been hit by lightning during the shoot. Neither of them was badly hurt, according to the film’s producer Steve McEveety.

I can already see the headlines: Conclusive proof that God exists!
