Went to see The Extraordinary League of Gentlemen with Linda, Andrew & Mel. It was good, I didn't feel like I'd wasted £6.30 and a few hours of my life, but it hardly lived up to my expectations.

Ker Ching, Pop idol finalists are going to murder Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over) ... another depth well and truly sunken to.

Schools are to be given more help to boost the achievements of white, Christian pupils. HELP HELP I'm BEING REPRESSED! RACISM!! RACISTS!! How dare they, we're all equal! Actually, the help is to boost the achievements of pupils from ethnic minorites, which isn't racist - cos it only discriminates against the majority.

Mobile phone ringtone sales are set to beat CD singles. It's a shame that modern day music is so bad punters can't bear to hear the music at CD quality anymore.

He was rocking the boat, Milo said, and Yossarian nodded once more. He was not a member of the team, Milo said. Yossarian nodded and listened to Milo tell him that the decent thing to do if he did not like the way Colonel Cathcart and Colonel Korn were running things was to to go Russia, instead of stirring up trouble. Yossarian refrained from pointing out that Colonel Cathcart, Colonel Korn and Milo could all go to Russia if they did not like the way he was stirring up trouble.

Discovered why Lipstick Traces came with only a minimal artwork. Maybe it's just me but I'm not too keen on the idea of downloading and printing off my own artwork -- it just doesn't look as good, and for me, is the only benefit to actually buying an album as opposed to downloading it for free via the internet -- I sincerly hope this idea doesn't catch on.

Lipstick Traces, the long awaited Manic Street Preachers double CD album 'alternate history' is released, needless to say I make a special trip into town to make my purchase. Despite there only being a handful of tracks on the two CDs that I don't already own it still seems incredibly exciting -- but then I get in to work and actually listen to it...

Most of the tracks aren't versions I already have, as I expected, so kudos to the Manics for not just sticking the b-sides from various singles together and making another £million or so. The only downer to the compilation is the minimal artwork accompanying even the limited edition release.

Bought Radiohead's long awaited new album on the way into work -- so it made me a few half-hours late, but life is all about priorities! I listened to it all day long while working; "Where I end and you begin" is my early favourite track on the album, but I won't be jumping to any decisions about the album until I've listened to it a hundred times over the next month, at least.

Today was a great day for British television: Celebrity Big Brother will not be back on our screens: "I'm sceptical how different and interesting you can make Celebrity Big Brother." - Channel 4 Chief Executive, Mark Thompson. Also, there is one less show 'starring' Vernon "the most annoying man on TV" Kay -- "Boy's and Girls" has been cancelled, I can't say whether this is a good thing or not, because I never even noticed it was on. From the title I presume it was some horrendous dating gameshow, something like the orginal MTV one, only without Jenny McCarthy!

4 hours travelling to Cardiff on public transport (mainly on the trains), 2 1/2 hours queuing outside the arena, 1 1/2 hours waiting inside the Arena, and finally a painful hour long set by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. That's what it took to see the Manics in Cardiff, but hell was it worth it!

The 80 minute (?) set was the best 80 minutes of my life; we managed to get right at the front and were in the third row of people standing. The set contained (that I remember)...

  • [GT] Motown Junk (intro: Jump, Van Halen), You Love Us, Motorcycle Emptiness, It's So Easy (?)
  • [HB] Archives Of Pain
  • [EMG] Everything Must Go, Design For Life, Kevin Karter, Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky,
  • [TIMT] You Stole The Sun From My Heart, The Masses Against The Classes,
  • [KYE] Ocean Spray, Let Robeson Sing, Miss Europa Disco Dancer

One song sticks out for me though - Archives of pain. Don't get me wrong, I like the new stuff, but I went primarily for the early Manics - and I was not disappointed.

The Bon Jovi gig was cool, probably 70 thousand people there? Unfortunately my expectation of having two options once the gig had ended hadn't taken into account one thing - SUNDAY.

That's right, twas a Sunday, everywhere was closed long before the gig even ended, so I spent from 11 till 4:20 in Cardiff train station, and it was bloody freezing. But I'd say it was worth it for sure. Amazingly it was daylight for most of the journey - got back in Winchester about half six and went to bed for the rest of the day. Still feeling sick from spending the night in the station.

In two months I'll be doing it all again - I just ordered a pair of tickets to see the manics at the Cardiff International Arena on the 23rd August, now that will be a great gig!

Amnesiac has been out for ages and I don't think I've mentioned it here once, shame on me. Needless to say, I bought the album on release day and it took me a few times through to get into it. Track 6 - Knives Out is probably my favourite on the album at the moment.
