Monday June 28th, 2004: England (Football) Liverpool (Football)

The up-side to England going out of Euro 2004 early is that, finally, Steven Gerrard is able to clear up his club future, which is exactly what he's done today -- by pledging his future to Liverpool F.C.

The past few weeks have been unbearable, having to hear Lampard going on about how great it'd be if Gerrard signed for Chelsea, disobeying rules not to talk about club matters. Even worse than that is all the Liverpool 'fans' flooding the forums/phone in's etc. with 'Gerrard's a traitor' and 'my mate Kev says Gerrard's already signed'

I can accept all this bullshit from the tabloids - it's their job to sell 'papers - but I'll never understand the mindset of a fan that seriously thinks Gerrard would leave the club he loves at this moment in time, when (once again) things look like they could be turning around.

England outplayed France for 90 minutes and took a deserved lead through Frank Lampard, but just when I thought my days of cursing Emile Heskey were over he conceeded a stupid foul which lead to Zidane slotting a free-kick past a flat footed David James in injury time. As if that wasn't enough Gerrard messed up a back pass in the ensueing chaos and David James assaulted Thieery Henry when the forward was goning nowhere. Oh and I almost forgot, as if all that wasn't painful enough Beckham missed a penalty when we were on-nil up. Still at least me outplayed the best team in Europe, shame we still can't win bearing that in mind.
