Discovery

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

On Football ‘Analysis’

We used to sit down and look forward to it in comfort on a Saturday, I think you're becoming too deep, I think you're setting yourselves up as judge and jury. I think you've gone over the dividing line where you have a contribution to make to one of being dogmatic, overbearing, boring, and you can keep going. I know it's difficult to justify a none-none for example, or to bill it as match of the day, but if that's what you get when you take your cameras to a ground then show the none-none, don't try and justify it or pick things out and bore us all to tears with your lectures.

V (2009)

I finally finished the second (and final) season of V (2009). It's been a bit of a chore making it through this season to be honest and there wasn't really a pay off at the end to have made it worth it in my opinion. I had fond memories of the original V mini-series, having caught a re-run of it during my early teens. After 22 episodes I have to conclude that this is the most inept resistance movement in any TV series I have seen to date

Taken 2

The original Taken was a surprise favourite of mine, this sequel is only a pale imitation of that movie though. The story never really gets going here and the set pieces aren't half as good as those in the first movie. It's not bad by any stretch, but it barely scratched the surface of any of the characters this time around.

Pidgin/Sametime “Not Authorized” Error

This week I was greeted by a "not authorized" error when attempting to log into Sametime using Pidgin. Digging around on the net it seems that our administrators decided to restrict what client versions were allowed to connect. Eventually I found the solution, and boy am I glad to be back using Pidgin again.

Customising XBMC CEC Support

Some of the default mappings from my Bravia seemed a little odd and a couple of buttons were not mapped at all, so I took to customising them, a process which isn't as simple as it could be due to there being multiple levels of abstraction by the time you try to configure what a button press does in XBMC.

Raspbmc CEC Adapter Settings

The main factor that pushed me into finally buying a Pi was the addition of CEC support for the model B.  For any media center solution to get my attention CEC support is simply a must have. The CEC adapter works wonderfully, it's responsive and plays nicely not only with the TV (sony [...]

Adventures in Pi

It's been a long time coming, but I finally bought myself a Raspberry Pi this week & have been busy messing around with Raspbmc for the majority of the weekend … some initial thoughts on my experiences so far: Heavy Lifting The Pi really struggled during library generation, but other than [...]

Even Superman Plays Video Games

I think video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people. But the First Amendment limits what we can do about video games and the Second Amendment to the Constitution limits what we can do about guns.

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander

Just let those words sink in for a moment: "Video games is a bigger problem than guns"! Because video games affect people!? Guns obviously have no affect on people, that's why we hand them out to our armed forces. Oh, hang on a moment, now I realise his mistake — he was thinking about Superman, guns do have no affect on Superman.  Even Superman plays video games!
